The Spark: A Personal Journey (2018)

Our story truly began in 2018 when I faced my own mountain: cancer treatments. Following an intense bout of radiation therapy, my skin was left profoundly dry, delicate, and in need of deep comfort. Desperate for relief, my radiologist gave me a crucial piece of advice: try to find a natural, calendula-infused blend to help comfort and nourish the skin tissue.

When I experienced firsthand the spectacular, deeply soothing relief that calendula provided for me, a spark was lit. Today, we source, study, and grow our own vibrant calendula flowers—perfecting the traditional art of slow-infusing these botanicals into pure, skin-loving oils. Nature had answered my prayers, and I knew this was a gift I had to hold close and share.

A Grandmother’s Mission

Years later, that hard-won knowledge became a blessing for our three-year-old granddaughter, who struggled with deeply uncomfortable, dry, and sensitive skin. We wanted to find a gentle, clean solution that would calm, soothe, and protect her delicate skin barrier without relying on harsh chemicals or synthetic ingredients.

Remembering how beautifully the calendula had comforted and conditioned my own skin after radiation, we put our hand-crafted infusions to work. We formulated small, ultra-gentle batches of calendula oil and whipped body butters just for her. The results were incredible. Her skin calmed, her comfort returned, and Urban Girls Botanicals was officially born. What started as comforting blends for our own family quickly expanded as friends and neighbors began asking for our nourishing botanical creations.
